Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea delegates after the signing of the MOU on Monday 22 May.

 

 

 

 

The Government of Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Immigration Border Security on Monday 22 May 2023, to strengthen and enhance border security.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Collin Beck paid a courtesy call on the Premier of Temotu Province, Hon. Clay Forau on Tuesday at the Provincial Capital, Lata.

The people of Torba Province in Vanuatu have shown their commitment in linking with the Solomon Islands by offering two plots of land for the Solomon Islands Government and Temotu Province.

 A delegation led by the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Hon. Nestor Giro is currently in Beijing to progress the Fisheries Cooperation with the People’s Republic of China. On 16th May 2023, Minister Giro visited the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in Beijing and held talks with Vice Minister Ma Youxiang.

Solomon Islands and Japan signed an Exchange of Notes to pave the way for Japan to assist the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in their ongoing work to safely remove and dispose UXOs in the country. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele and the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency, Miwa Toshiaki signed the Exchange of Notes on 17th May 2023 in Honiara.

Work on reaching a broader overarching Bilateral Border Agreement between Solomon Islands and Vanuatu has begun following a successful Senior Officials meeting between the two countries from 11th -12 May (2023) on Rah Island, Motalava in Vanuatu.

Senior Government Officials from Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are currently holding discussions over the Joint- Maritime Border of the two neighbouring countries on the Island of Motalava, in the Torba Province of Vanuatu.

The Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea 13th Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) concluded last Friday with the signing of the Outcomes by both heads of delegation, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Solomon Islands, Colin Beck and Deputy Secretary (Policy) of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Papua New Guinea, Mrs. Magdalene Moi-he.

The Solomon Islands High Commission (SIHC) in Suva facilitated the distribution of the first batch of Solomon Blue dark tuna flakes to students studying in various institutions around Fiji on Saturday 22nd April 2023.
