Waisisi Community High School in Malaita Province became the 11th recipient of computers which were generously donated by the Georgian Government to the people of Solomon Islands.
Yesterday the Schools principle Mr. Christian Sao’ia took delivery of two new computers which were donated by the Georgia Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
The computers were secured by the former Prime Minister Mr. Gordon Darcy Lilo in 2012.
The Georgian government sent its first batch of fifty computers through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) to the Solomon Islands government in late 2014.
Speaking during the handing over at the MFAET office, the Deputy Secretary of MFAET Mr. William Soaki said that Waisisi CHS as one of the rural Secondary Schools in the Country deserves to be among the recipients of the computers from the Georgia Government.
“On behalf of the Government of Georgia, I am happy to donate these two computers to Waisisi School and I hope that the computers will be able to assist the staff and students in their studies and work,” Mr. Soaki said.
Upon receiving the computers, the Principle of the School Mr. Sao’ia said that the donation is a huge blessing for the staff and students at Waisisi CHS.
“We were not expecting this donation of new computers, but now that we have received them we are very thankful to the Georgia Government and MFAET for facilitating the gift of new computers
“Our students will now be able to have access to computers to do their assignments and we hope that this will be able to help them achieve good results in their end of year exams,” Mr. Sao’ia said.
MFAET is giving priorities to schools which are located outside of Honiara.
Su’u NSS, Jejevo CHS, Gizo CHS, Boe PSS, Choiseul Bay PSS, Auki CHS and Luesalemba PSS are other schools who have also received computers from the Georgia Government.
The Georgia government had pledged to donate one thousand computers for the Solomon Islands.
