The Protocol Department can be thought of as the practical arm of Solomon Islands foreign diplomacy. The Department has a part to play for every official engagement the Government has overseas. Its responsibilities vary widely which are guided by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

Locally, the Department is responsible to ensure that the diplomatic corps in Honiara are well looked after and that the Solomon Islands’ Government meets its responsibilities as a host.

The Departments core services include Accreditation, Visits, Diplomatic Exemptions, and Consular Services.

The Department plays the leading role in Protocol issues for the Head of Government and the Government House.
