A visiting team from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat- European Union Strengthening Pacific Intra-Regional and International Trade (SPIRIT) Project paid a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade this week.

The SPIRIT team met with the Trade Commissioner, Barrett Salato, senior trade officials and Officials from the Europe and International Economic Cooperation Desk within the Ministry.

The team are in the Solomon Islands to conduct a series of consultations with both the public and private sectors. A Joint Public, Private Sector Dialogue on National Implementation Plan of the EU-Pacific interim Economic Partnership Agreement (EU-iEPA )  will be jointly organized by MFAET and the SPIRIT programme from tomorrow (Wednesday 9th August)

 The outcomes of these consultations will help to advance the current draft National Implementation Plan of Action (NIPA) for the EU-Pacific interim Economic Partnership Agreement (EU-iEPA) implementation for Solomon Islands.

 Through the respective consultation will enable identifying activities that would support in implementation of the EU-Pacific interim Economic Partnership Agreement(iEPA) which Solomon Islands is a party to.

The SPIRIT team will also have the opportunity to interview Solomon Islands businesses and Government Officials on utilizing the market access to EU with the aim of producing a video to highlight the success story of exports to EU. SolTuna will be one of the companies featured in the video sharing their experience of the industry, exports to the EU market and also utilization and experience so far on the Global Sourcing provisions for tuna products under EU-iEPA.
