Solomon Islands and New Zealand reaffirm their close bilateral cooperation when both Foreign Ministers met in Auckland, New Zealand last week. The Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Milner Tozaka met his counter-part, Hon. Murrary McCully in Auckland, New Zealand on Friday last week. Minister Tozaka was concluding his one week RSE Minister visit in New Zealand when he met with Minister McCully.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon Milner Tozaka is currently in New Zealand as part of the Recognised Seasonal Employment (RSE) Ministerial Visit from 26 -31 March 2017.
Three Solomon Islands companies are in Auckland, New Zealand to participate in the Pacific Path to Market Trade Mission from 23-30 March 2017. The programme is organised by the Pacific Trade and Invest (PT&I). The Solomon Islands companies are among 23 Businesses from other Pacific Island countries who attended the event. Those countries attending the event include, Fiji, Tonga, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI).

The Solomon Islands High Commissioner to New Zealand, Her Excellency, Mrs Joy Kere acknowledged the New Zealand government for its support towards the establishment of the RSE websites. The launching of the RSE website was held on Tuesday 21st March 2017, in Wellington, New Zealand.
On 22 February 2017, the European Commission lifted the yellow card it handed down to Solomon Islands in late 2014, recognising the significant efforts that have been made towards fighting illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing by the government and industry.
This comes as a great relief for exporters of tuna to the European Union, and shows that Solomon Islands is committed to bringing into line our fisheries’ legal and administrative frameworks with international law, in order to tackle illegal fishing effectively.
As we all know, the fisheries industry is of significant importance to the Solomon Islands, providing employment and growth opportunities in the economy.
The EU, at over 500 million consumers, is a substantial source of demand for our products so maintaining our ability to export tuna to this market is essential.
