The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Honourable Milner Tozaka joined several Pacific Leaders and other Ministers in Noumea, New Caledonia last week from 27th to 28th July 2017 to attend the 10th Pacific Community Conference under the theme of “Innovative Partnership for Sustainable Development”.

The conference held at the Pacific Community Secretariat and was preceded by the 47th meeting of the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administration (CRGA) which was convened from 24th to 26th July 2017.

The conference also coincided with the 70th Anniversary celebration of the Pacific Community since its establishment in 1947 under the original name of the South Pacific Commission (SPC). The two days conference concluded with Leaders and Ministerial Representatives adopting the Pacific Community 70th Anniversary declaration.

Many donor partners and observer organisations from the region including international organisation attended the conference.

In his remarks at the conference, Honourable Tozaka on behalf of the Solomon Islands Government and people, congratulated the Pacific Community on the occasion to celebrate the 70th Anniversary. Honourable Tozaka said, “The organisation has come a long way and continues to make itself relevant today in the midst of growing challenges”.

Honourable Tozaka further stated that the theme of the conference “Innovative Partnership for Sustainable Development” was an inclusive statement and he informed the conference that Solomon Islands has already adopted the Public Private Partnership model as a development mechanism.

Honourable Tozaka also held a number of bilateral meetings with our Pacific Islands neighbours and development partners in the margin of the conference to reaffirm cordial relations, strengthen existing cooperation and explore opportunities for building new ones.

The Ministers delegation includes officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Development Planning and Aid Coordination. The delegation returned to the country on Monday this week.
