Solomon Islands has reaffirmed its commitment to support the work of the MSG Secretariat during the MSG Governing Body Meeting in Suva this week.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele echoed those sentiments during the MSG Foreign Ministers Meeting.
When deliberating on the 2020 work programme and budget of the MSG Secretariat, Minister Manele stated that Solomon Islands noted the work programme of the Secretariat and reiterate the importance of streamlining the Secretariat's work programme with other regional organisations, so that they do not to duplicate but compliment their work and ensure they are based on the priorities of the Membership.
Minister Manele acknowledge the Secretariat for presentating a balance budget for Members consideration during the MSG Governing Body Meeting as this is critical for the organisation. This is in view of challenge that the Secretariat has faced financially over the past years. While noting there are cuts in the work programme, Solomon Islands was pleased with the assurance provided by the Secretariat that this will not affect the implementation of the work programme. The Secretariat will work with other partners to support in its work programme for the benefit of the Members. Minister Manele urge the Secretariat to work closely with Members so that the work programmes translate to tangible benefits for its people within the sub-region.
The MSG 2020 work programme and budget was endorsed by the Senior Officials and approved by the Foreign Ministers in the MSG Governing Body Meeting this week in Suva, Fiji.
The MSG Governing Body Meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Hon. Jeremiah Manele, the Acting Deputy Secretary, Mr Cornelius Walegerea and Mr Ellison Mason, Counsellor, Solomon Islands High Commission in Suva, Fiji.
