On the 21st October, Solomon Islands Immigration officers, Mr Johnson Oge andMr Richard Manuroho, participated in a half day passports training at the Australian Passport Office in Brisbane.

Mr Oge and Mr Manuroho are in Brisbane with the Consulate General of Solomon Islands having been sent by the Government in August to set up passport renewal services for Solomon Islanders in Australia. The training requested by the Consulate with Queensland Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) provided an opportunity for the Solomon Islands officials to cover areas including, the Australian Passport System, Interviewing Skills, and Observation of Client Services.

Mr Oge said that the brief course provided an insight into how passport services were offered in Australia and noted certain procedures that could be adopted into the country’s passport processes. Mr Oge also acknowledged DFAT’s support and said that the knowledge acquired from the training is useful and could be used within Solomon Islands Immigration. Both Officers look forward to share their experience and knowledge acquired with the Solomon Islands Immigration Department upon their return.
