STAFF of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) joined international celebrations marking Pink October last week.

Pink October is an annual campaign that raises awareness about breast cancer impact, its causes, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.Staff of the Ministry wore pink on Friday (14th October 2022) as a show of support to the awareness and as a gesture to honour survivors, remember those lost to the disease, and to support the progress made to defeat breast cancer.

Permanent Secretary of MFAET, Collin Beck led his officers in honouring the occasion.

As part of further response, an awareness talk will be conducted by health officials from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) for staff at the MFAET head office this Thursday (20th October).

While there is no updated figure on the cases of breast cancer in the Solomon Islands, the MHMS said the trend over the past decade has shown steady increase in recorded cancer incidences with cervical cancer topping the list followed by breast cancer.

The Ministry states that the number of Chemotherapy sessions from 2019 to 2021 had an increase from 321 in 2019 to 727 in 2021.
