The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET) announced the passing of Solomon Islands first Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), His Excellency the late John Moffat Fugui on Thursday (22nd December).

An Agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Solomon Islands on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Diplomatic, Official or Service Passports and Passports for Public Affairs officially entered into force on 24th November 2022.

A High-level delegation from New Caledonia was in Honiara to consult with Solomon Islands as an MSG member on an option of pursuing the results of the December 2021 UN self-determination referendum at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Solomon Islands citizens resident and students in the Republic of Fiji can now initiate applications for new passports and renewal of passports at the High Commission of Solomon Islands in Suva.

Solomon Islands Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Jeremiah Manele held a bilateral meeting with the European Commissioner for International Partnerships H.E Jutta Urpilainen, in the margins of his official engagements in Brussels, Belgium.

The People’s Republic of China has donated $1.7m (SBD) to the government of the Solomon Islands to assist in disaster relief efforts following the recent 7.3 earthquake on Guadalcanal.
